The Technical Operations (TechOps) team builds and operates the infrastructure powering the Fastly Edge Cloud Platform, overseeing a global network spanning six continents with over 100 points of presence and 578 Tbps capacity. The role seeks an experienced SRE focused on networks to bring engineering best practices, operational rigor, and automation skills to shape Fastly’s network and improve the Internet.
Build, operate, and maintain the continually growing global network footprint of Fastly’s Edge Cloud Platform; Respond to significant traffic incidents and lead network incidents, resolving edge cases and failure scenarios with expertise in IP routing, particularly BGP; Write performant, maintainable, clear, concise code and contribute to code reviews; Partner in development and iteration of tools and automation systems that improve network operations; Innovate new methods for monitoring network performance focusing on end‑user experience and proactively address potential issues; Conduct continual deep‑dive performance analytics and collaborate with partner teams to maintain a performant global network; Advocate for operational stability by identifying opportunities and partnering with engineering teams to shape roadmaps and software solutions; Mentor team members on complexities of global routing, especially in an anycast‑heavy environment
Experience with TCP/IP, BGP, Anycast and DNS; Automation and coding experience using Python or similar languages; Proficiency with Tier 1 Internet service providers, Internet exchanges and cloud providers; Ability to analyze internet traffic patterns using flow‑based tools; Experience with alerting, monitoring and visibility tools such as Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus or Splunk; Knowledge of cloud hosting solutions (GCP, AWS, Azure); Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Ansible); Linux/Unix systems administration and network stack optimisation; Strong documentation and knowledge‑sharing skills; Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams to shape technical roadmap and prioritize automation tooling
